When a person is diagnosed with epilepsy, many questions follow. Gathering current and accurate information from informed resources becomes key in developing a successful epilepsy treatment plan. Education about safely managing seizures when they occur, identifying valuable life style changes that ensure safety, understanding the particulars of the specific epilepsy diagnosis and seizure type(s), and finding ways to maintain a normal daily living pattern will ensure the best chance of living a positive and productive life.
Whether an individual is in kindergarten or in a master’s program, a diagnosis of epilepsy can compromise the educational process. The underlying cause of your epilepsy, continuing seizures, medication effects or a combination of all can make learning and remembering difficult. Many school issues can be resolved with specific interventions that are developed into an educational plan for the student and which help educators understand the complexities of seizures and epilepsy.
