2011 Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group (NEREG) SUMMER CAMP WINNERS
Dr. Marcelo Lancman and the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group are thrilled to be offering support to a total of 13 children to attend summer camp this year where we all hope they will have the chance to have wonderful and interesting experiences in a safe and stimulating summer setting.

NAME: William Novak
AGE: 10

TOWN: West Caldwell, NJ
CAMP: Harbor Haven Day Camp
NEUROLOGIST: Dr. Aviva Bojko
INFORMATION RELEASE: YES
APPLICATION COMMENT: William has both Autism & epilepsy/seizure disorder. His camp is a structured environment where he feels safe and able to do more recreational, fun activities that his normal school day cannot provide: swimming, nature walks, games, learning social skills with other campers outside of his school and more. It is a full-day program (830am-345pm) which is financially exhaustive to our means as parents. It is a great program, though, and we do all we can and save all year long to be able to have him attend.

NAME: Danielle Stocknoff

NAME: Raquel Leah Malta
AGE: 15

TOWN: Spring Valley, NY
CAMP: School of Visual Arts Pre-College Visual Arts Program
NEUROLOGIST: Dr. Elfrida Malkin
INFORMATION RELEASE: YES
APPLICATION COMMENT: I dream of becoming an artist, and during the year I try to involve myself in every program available, but my parents cannot afford to send me to programs outside of my school, which sadly is not very strong in the visual arts curriculum. If I can take part in this summer program I can learn, develop a portfolio and also earn 3 AP college credits. I am never happier than when I am surrounded b y art and artists!
EXCERPT FROM PARENT COMMENT: This summer can make a huge impact and help set her on a path for success and looking towards her future. Raquel has had so many struggles in her academic life, and this is an area that instills confidence in her, where she feels good about herself and strives for excellence! Unfortunately, her school does not have a strong visual arts curriculum. The School of Visual Arts program can give her the tools and experience she will need to believe she does have what it takes to gain acceptance into an art college, and give her the confidence to believe she is smart and capable enough to achieve anything she puts her mind to! It would be a dream come true, and the opportunity of a lifetime!
